Curriculum vitae of Marikris Der Rosario

Marikris is a back end developer with a flair for graphic design and illustration. Initially I contacted Marikris by email trying to understand more about her and her experience in Australia.
The impression I had was that she was really creative and also with analytical skills. Designing a CV/Infographic for her in my mind was like an hybrid between rationality and creativity.
The idea was far from original, in fact I was thinking about the visualisation of right and left brain and pointing out experiences and skills from the two different areas. I could then highlight education from both sides.

First concepts

The idea was to have circuits like a pcb board in the left and organic shapes on the right

Also the brain was the tip of a storyline representing the spine where Marikris choices will help to influence the status quo.

Another direction was to consider an abstract block shaped in different items with specific lengths indicating the time and the complexity of Marikris path.

A tree is always a good way of representing a timeline and also growth

I was imagining a nice and diverse typography with an inverted visual hierarchy in order to drive the eyes of the beholder from the bottom to the top of the visual metaphor. I thought about Tim Burton’s movies and “The nightmare before Christmas” font and also reflecting that surreal design in the tree.

So here I am trying to highlight Marikris experience in two countries but also channeling the art of bonsai

Every branch represents a pillar and the sun is a pie chart showing the time in Philippines and Australia. Moving away from Tim Burton as well and using a blocky typography. Adding colours for different areas perhaps is not working yet.

I was looking for a more abstract concept

Thinking of using a tree made of words but keeping the metaphor slightly hinting to a tree shape. I like the concept of having something minimal but also resembling a map of the journey rather than a linear analogy to the tree.

Dimension, position and colour are defining experience, education and skills.

This is where I ended up

The visual hierarchy works and the colours are helping the user focusing on the right element of the CV. The cat describes hobbies.

This visualisation is far from perfect but it represent a creative approach with a structured cascading logic to the different branches hinting to the coding language.
